Singing along

I love listening to music when I'm driving. (that and podcasts). I also love listening to music when I'm working around the house. I love country, classical, folk and some easy listening. I love choirs singing hymns. Dislike Rap with the intensity of a thousand burning suns. Not so crazy about pop-rock.

Now you know.

I love music that sets my toes to tapping and makes my heart happy. I especially love music with good lyrics and good harmony. Lots of harmony.

I have always loved Peter, Paul and Mary (showing my age here, I know) and listening to melancholy music that makes me feel a bit sad. Sometimes that's good for your soul too.

Other times I like stirring, dramatic music. The kind that they have on movie soundtracks.

Especially when I'm driving.

Then there's country music. Songs that tell a story or capture an emotion so much better than I can. I love singing along on the chorus if it's good. I don't use a hairbrush anymore though.

Lately I've been on an 90's Christian music kick. Don Francisco, Michael Card, 2nd Chapter of Acts, John Michael Talbot. Music that makes me think and reminds me of a simpler time in my faith life.

I just bought myself a new Sonos speaker so that I can listen to tunes in my office. But I'm still downstairs in my cave, waiting for the renovations so I'm going to wait until I'm all moved in before I hook that up.

Meantime, it's computer speakers.

What I love most about music is how it can resurrect memories of when you heard the first song. Singing along with Lady Gaga in a nail salon as my sister and nieces got pedicures. Driving through the mountains as I heard Emmy Lou Harris' haunting voice. Watching my son and daughter dance, spinning around the floor to Dean Brody's Canadian Girl. Quiet Sunday mornings as we listened to Glasgow Orpheus Choir.
